No Modi effect in UP: Mulayam

Biswajeet, PNS

Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said that BJP’s parime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has failed to make an impact in BJP because people here still treat him an outsider.

He also predicted that Third Front will come to power post lok Sabha elections. "Who is Narendra ModiIJ He is just Chief Minister of Gujarat that has 23 lok Sabha seats. Uttar Pradesh has 80 parliamentary seats. For people of UP Modi is just an outsider. Modi’s rallies do not have an impact on Uttar Pradesh. The BJP knows that Modi’s rallies have failed to make an impact and therefore started criticising Samajwadi Party Government," Yadav said while addressing reporters in Hardoi on Sunday.

Yadav was in the city to attend a private function. He said that BJP leaders are now misled by the Modi’s rallies. They are complacent. They feel that BJP will sweep Uttar Pradesh. They are mistaken. People have seen the rules of Congress and BJP. They are looking for a change and would opt for Third Front. "The third Front is not in existence now but it will be formed after the elections. Neither the BJP nor the Congress will touch the magic number in the elections, hence the only option will be of Third Front government post lok Sabha election," he said.

When his attention was drawn towards Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma's claim of Congress winning 50 seats in the state and the SP winning only two seats, the SP chief equated this statement as Mungeri lal ke haseen sapne. "First Verma should ensure that he wins his own lok Sabha seat and then make claim about his party's victory. It would worst ever defeat of the party in lok Sabha election," he said. After remaining for about 45 minutes in the programme Yadav left for his native place Etawah.
