Uttar Pradesh Congress accused director general of police OP Singh, for politicising the State police by making baseless comments that no communal violence took in the state during past one year.
``Yogi Adityanath led government had made UP police a puppet of their political masters hence the state police heads had started making political statement”, asserted spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, Amarnath Agarwal. Reacting to DGP, OP Singh’s statement to a news agency that no communal violence took place in the State during last one year, Agarwal said that the police chief is making a `big lie’ just to appease his political boss, Yogi Adityanath, who also made similar baseless claims.
Agarwal further said that even if he took Singh’s statement to be true as he is heading the police force and had data of clashes in his records, but then what raised serious question is that the same Party’s government in the Centre is making different claims. ``Just on Tuesday, lalji Verma, leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party in the State Assembly informed that according to statement given by Union Minister of State for Home, Hansraj, in the Rajya Sabha, a total of 822 communal clashes took in the country out of which 195 was reported from UP alone”, Agarwal pointed adding that either DGP OP Singh is making false claims on directions of chief minister or the Union Minister had put the wrong facts in the House.
Agarwal further said that OP Singh is not the first DGP in this government who had politicize the UP police. ``Former DGP Sulkhan Singh, who is blue eyed officer of Yogi Adityanath’s government and chief minister also blessed him with an extension of three months, had issued a political order asking his sub-ordinates to remove all the police station incharges in the state who were given charge during Samajwadi Party’s regime and were continuing to enjoy the same in Yogi’s government”, Agarwal pointed while claiming that no other DGP had earlier issued such orders to make transfer on political line.
Accusing Yogi for ignoring the seniority in the posting of state police heads, Agarwal said that BJP government wanted an `Yes Man’ as top cop of the State hence the government waited for over a fortnight to let OP Singh, heads the state police force, superceeding four senior officers of his cadre. Congress leader further claimed that both Yogi and OP Singh, endorsed the encounters, and said that they will reply with bullets if criminals opened fire on the police team. ``Yogi on Thursday claimed in the House that 1200 encounters took place so far during his tenure”, pointed Agarwal while adding that the figure itself pointed that how the morale of the criminals was so high in this government that they were openly challenging the police force by first opening fire if the cops dared to arrest them. ``In none of the other Party’s government, such high number of cases were reported on attack on the police team”, he asserted saying that still the Government and the DGP are padding their backs claiming it as `success’.
