lokayukt Justice (Retd), NK Mehrorta would soon initiate legal proceedings against chairperson of the Kursat Nagar Panchayat of Hardoi, Vidya Devi. The probe against the chairperson reportedly revealed many irregularities causing a loss of several lakh rupees to the state exchequer.
Confirming about the above investigation, NK Mehrortra said that he got a complaint from son of former Nagar Panchayat chairperson of Kursat in Hardoi, in which he alleged that the sitting chairperson, Vidya Devi, had committed many irregularities during her last tenure as chairperson. Mehrotra said that he looked into the charges and found many of them true.
According to Mehrotra, the probe showed that Vidya Devi had used her chair to get the work done in the areas which even not fell under her jurisdiction and that too without following laid rules. He said that during 2008-09 financial session, the probe showed that it was not just that the work done not comes under Vidya Devi’s jurisdiction but to allocate the tenders at high prices, quotation of some companies have been attached but physical verification pointed that no such organisation exists on the addresses on which they were shown running in the quotation.
Mehrotra further said that even the prices on which the work done was also found to be much above approved rates and the discount which companies gave to other government organizations have been not taken thus about Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh extra have been paid for the supply. He claimed that if no irregularities have been made by Vidya Devi, several lakh rupees of the Nagar Panchayat could be easily saved. He said that the probe is now almost complete and very soon he would initiate further legal proceedings against Vidya Devi, after serving her notice in this regard.
