The Janata Dal (United) has said that the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar was not a prime ministerial candidate for the 2019 parliament elections. JD (U) said the party has never projected its national president and Bihar chief minister as the PM candidate for the next parliament elections. The party also said it cannot prevent other parties from projecting Nitish Kumar as the prime minister candidate for the e 2019 parliament elections.
Talking to media here on Saturday, KC Tyagi, Rajya Sabha member and party spokesman said here on Saturday that undoubtedly ``Nithsh Kumar was a popular leader and prime ministerial candidate’’.
The Janata Dal (U) also jumped into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree controversy. KC Tyagi said that it is a matter of investigation that only one Narendra Modi did his graduation in the past 35 years from the university (mentioned in PM’s mark sheet) and he lives in Alwar. He said that the prime minister must come clean on his educational qualification.
Tyagi was in lucknow to supervise over the preparation for the arrival of the party chief and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar here on May 15. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar would be visiting Varanasi on May 12, and subsequently lucknow on May 15.
The JD (U) spokesman said defeating BJP in UP in 2017 is the only aim of JD (U). ``Those opposing Congress were helping the BJP so all anti-BJP parties should come under Congress's umbrella”, said Tyagi. The JD (U) leader said that the BJP would lose miserably in all five states which went to polls recently.
On prohibition, Tyagi said that alcohol and liquor are one of the major causes behind the domestic violence and rising incidents of crime. "From May, we would be intensifying our anti-alcohol campaign throughout the state and at the same time target the schools, colleges and education institutes around which liquor shops have cropped up," Tyagi said. The JD (U) would run the anti alcohol campaign in UP along with Kisan manch, an organisation floated by the former Prime Minister VP Singh.
Shekhar Dixit, UP unit chief of Kisan Manch, said, "Our fight is against liquor mafia, mining mafia and land mafia, who have de-generated the social and moral fabric of the society’’. He said that alcoholism is a disease, which must be completely eliminated. "Almost 70% of the crimes committed owe their origin to alcoholism, and 80% road accidents are also because of alcoholism," Dixit said, and wondered that why the state government is not taking tough stance to tackle this menace in the state.
