Tragedy hit lakhimpur Kheri when nine people were killed and over a dozen others injured when a speeding car ploughed into over them late on Thursday night. The group of villagers were watching movie on a projector at a roadside in Mitauli area of the district when incident occured.
Reports said that the villagers sitting on the footpath near Khurda village were watching a movie on Thursday night after a function when the speeding Bolero jeep (UP34Q-5444) ran over them. in the accident four persons were killed on the spot, while five others succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. Those killed were identified as
Chandrika (40), Ragini (16), Yogesh (10), Ram Shree (45), Dheeru (10), Gyanendra (26), lalima (16), Mohit (12) and Abhisekh (8). The injured were admitted to District Hospital from where three of them were referred to lucknow. The villagers nabbed the driver, who was allegedly drunk and handed him over to police. He was identified as Puneet, a resident of Raniganj area of Kheri.
