The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan and DGP Javeed Ahmed seeking a report on a complaint that families of a particular religion were leaving Kairana town of Muzaffarnagar due to fear of communal backlash / crimes.

As per a NHRC releae, it has been alleged that about 250 families have migrated and left their homes out of fear of criminals enjoying political patronage. The Commission observed that the allegations made were serious in nature.

It has also directed its DIG (Investigation) to depute a team for an on the spot enquiry covering all allegations made in the complaint and submit a report within two weeks.

According to the complaint sent to NRHC on Friday, a woman belonging to Kashyap caste was abducted, gang raped and killed, yet no action was taken by the police against the offenders.

Two businessmen and brothers - Shankar and Raju, were shot dead by criminals in broad day light in the market as they did not pay protection money to the criminals.

Besides, a petrol pump was also looted in the area and when the police took on the criminals, they shot dead a constable and managed to flee.

Taking serious view of such daring incidents of crime reported from Kairana town of Muzaffarnagar and in view of the families of a particular community making an exodus fearing for their lives, the NHRC sought reply in this regard from the UP government.
