Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid (Delhi) Maulana Ahmed Bukhari has convened a meeting of representatives of the Muslim community in lucknow on February 20 to review whether the SP government fulfilled the promises made to improve Muslims’ plight.
Though the Imam is unhappy with ruling SP, the meeting assumes important as the Assembly polls in UP will be held in 2017. During the 2012 Assembly polls, Maulana had pitched in for the SP.
Bukhari said that Muslim leaders will chalk out the roadmap for Assembly polls. “Muslim clerics from UP would meet in lucknow on February 20to discuss the present role of the government and how its decisions have helped the community,” he said.
Bhukhari, however, expressed dissatisfication with the ruling party’s performance. “The UP government has failed to provide security to minorities. The promise of providing them reservation, jobs, education have not been fulfilled,” he said. He also questioned the state government’s decision to set up Urdu model schools and questioned about the status of the lofty announcement.
Condemning the communal violence of Muzaffarnagar and murder of Akhlaq in Dadri, the Maulana said that Muslims feel insecured in Akhilesh Yadav government.
Bukhari said that the Muslim community is not satisfied with the ruling SP government. “Since I had asked the community to vote for the SP, now they are asking me what did the government do for them,” he said. “I have met SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav several times with our demands and grievances, but nothing has materialised so far,” he said.
