Even as the opposition has been accusing the BJP government for allowing ‘jungle raaj’ to prevail in the state, Bijnor was rocked by a sensational killing inside a courtroom.

Assailants barged inside the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court during a murder trial and opened indiscriminate fire, killing a murder accused and injuring three others, including two cops. The CJM somehow managed to save his life.

The assailants included the son of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader, who was murdered six months back. After executing the daring attack, the killers surrendered.

The assailants fired at least two dozen rounds before putting down their weapons when cops reached there and took them into custody.

As per reports, BSP leader and property dealer Haji Ehsaan and his nephew Shadab were gunned down in Najibabad area of Bijnor two months back. Later, the victim’s kin named Shahnawaz, Jabbar, Danish, Asif, Aslam, Irshad, Ikrar, and Afzal as the perpetrators. The police arrested the first three while the rest evaded arrest.

On Tuesday, Shahnawaz and Jabbar were brought to Bijnore session’s court from Tihar Jail in Delhi for a hearing. While the hearing was underway, three persons entered the courtroom and peppered the two accused with bullets, leaving prime main accused Shahnawaz dead on the spot. Co-accused Jabbar suffered serious injuries and was admitetd to Meerut hospital. Two cops, who rushed to save the accused, were also injured in the firing.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Yogesh Kumar somehow scampered into an adjoining room and saved his life. After accomplishing their mission, the assailants which included the slain BSP leader’s son, surrendered and were taken into custody.

A case was registered and investigations were started. Heavy police force was also deployed soon after the incident to avert a clash between the two groups.
