Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday asked the youth cadre of the party to apply themselves for bringing the party back to power in 2017 Assembly polls. Yadav was addressing the party’s four frontal outfits – lohia Vahini, Samajwadi Chatra Sabha, Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha and Mulayam Youth Brigade.
The SP chief reminded the cadre that it was election time and they have to go to the people in 2017. “Hence refrain from sycophancy as the common people are politically more aware now and sycophants never earn the confidence of the people,’’ the former CM said.
“It was the youth which had played a pivotal role in enabling the SP to come to power on its own for the first time. You need to repeat that performance. If you have firm resolve, courage and will power, then nothing can stop you from achieving your goals. But you need to have humility and integrity,’’ Yadav advised.
Recounting his experience in public life spanning over five decades, Mulayam said, ``In my long career I never faced people questioning my integrity. The foremost need in public life is to maintain a spotless integrity.’’
On a youth leader complaining about the indifference of ministers and bureaucrats towards the cadres , the SP chief assured them of talking to the CM. Reiterating his stance against sycophancy, Mulayam Singh said that one should not only refrain from sycophancy but also steer clear of such persons. “Many ministers were removed and departments of few others were changes on this count and non performance,’’ he said.
Yadav however added that he had no grudges against ministers dropped from the cabinet as they were removed following complaints received by the party.
Besides Mulayam Singh, party general secretary Arvind Singh Gope, Anand Bahdauria, Sunil Yadav, Sanjay lathar, Rajpal kashyap, Naimul Hasan and many other youth leaders also addressed the meeting.
Meanwhile, the SP chief is expected to attend the oath taking ceremony of Bihar CM-elect Nitish Kumar in Patna on November 20. A formal invitation has been sent by Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to the SP leader.
Presently, it is planned that the party president, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and party general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav would go to Patna to attend the ceremony but a final decision would be taken at the last moment, sources said.
