Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday went to lucknow District Jail to meet former cabinet minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who is doing time in connection with gangrape charges.
Talking to the media after meeting Prajaapati, Mulayam Singh said that Gayatri was a victim of a vilification campaign and he was being hounded by the police and investigation agencies as if he was a terrorist.
“The strictness showed by lucknow Jail authorities on Prajapati and jailed student leaders makes one feel that they were terrorists. This is unfortunate,” said Mulayam Singh.
“The former Uttar Pradesh ChieMinister was closeted with Prajapati for about an hour in the jail after taking prior permission,” confirmed Jail Superintendent Pl Pandey. Mulayam Singh also met the students leaders alliaagned with the SP who were jailed for waving black flag to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently in lucknow University campus. Prajapati has been in jail since March 15 after he was charged of gangrape in an FIR on February 15 on directions of the Supreme Court.
However, the lucknow Police initially avoided Prajapati’s arrest as he was not only a powerful minister in the Akhilesh government but was also a candidate from Amethi Assembly segment during the Aassembly poll in March.
