Initiatives taken by the Yogi Adityanath government under Mission Shakti are not only protecting women and girls but also saving homes by assisting in solving domestic feuds.
The Women Power Helpline has embarked upon a mission by providing online counselling to dissenting and warring couples thereby saving their homes.
Besides shouldering the responsibility of brokering peace in the family, the Women’s Helpline is also ensuring financial security to women.
The counselling service has been getting calls from homemakers and working women. Within nine days of the launch of Mission Shakti’ (October 17 to 25), the helpline has been able to save eight homes through online counselling.
Not only addressing macro issues, the counselling is also helping in saving women from slipping into depression.
Associate professor of psychology at Lucknow University, Dr Manini Srivastava, said, “The role of counselling is far more than one may expect in matters related to women and should be handled with sensitivity and empathy which is precisely being done by the Women Helpline of the UP Police.’’
With the process underway, complaints of minor adjustment problems to domestic violence are being received on helpline number 1090. If assessed as grave in nature, the complaints are registered and then the couples are subjected to three-phase counselling.
Between October 17 and 25, a total of 7,829 complaints were received by the Women Power Helpline at a daily average of 869 calls. Prior to the launch of Mission Shakti, the daily average of such complaints used to be 783.
In the first phase of counselling, 16,742 cases were taken up while in the second and third phases, 3,548 and 117 people were counselled.
Besides, Women and Child Safety Organisation launched a ‘Safe City’ project under which facilities of 100 two-wheeler Pink Patrol, 10 four-wheeler Pink Patrol, 25 Pink Booths, data analytics centre at 1090, integration of 1090 with 112 and cyber forensic lab were carried out for ensuring safety and security of women.
