As the opposition is demanding the resignation of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra `Teni’ in the Kheri case in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed, the minister said on Friday that he would not step down as “people will decide my fate”.

He also claimed that his son Ashish was innocent and he would appear before the police on Saturday.

The Union minister, who reached the state capital on Friday evening to attend Bharatiya Janata Party’s meeting of Awadh region with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh at the chief minister’s residence tonight, questioned opposition parties’ audacity in demanding his resignation and said what right the opposition leaders had to demand his resignation.

Talking to media here, Ajay Mishra Teni clarified that his son Ashish was not absconding and was very much present in their bungalow in Shahpur area of Lakhimpur Kheri.

“If you don't believe it, then go to Lakhimpur and see for yourself," he said.

Mishra said that in BJP no one was bigger than the law. "If I had been the leader of another political party ruling the state, the case against my son would not have been registered. A case has been registered against my son and if he is guilty then action will also be taken against him," he said.

The Union minister said that his son had received the notice on Thursday.

"Today his health is not good. He will appear before the police tomorrow (Saturday) and will present his statement and evidence etc.” he said

He reiterated that his son was innocent.

While defending his son, Mishra said that the miscreants masquerading as farmers had beaten up people at the spot. "If you people have seen the videos, you would believe that my son was not there. If my son had been there, he too would have been murdered," he said.
