A minor girl committed suicide by consuming poison after being allegedly harassed by a neighbour in Barabanki.

The police on Friday said the accused was arrested.

The 15-year-old girl died during treatment.

SHO, Mohammadpur, Ashok Kumar Singh, said the alleged accused, Salman, was arrested and booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and Section 354 (A) (sexual harassment) of Indian Penal Code.

He said the girl took the extreme step after being harassed by Salman.

She was taken to the district hospital by her parents and then referred to King George’s Medical University Trauma Centre in Lucknow where she died during treatment on Thursday night.

The police said that the girl had stepped out of her house earlier this week when Salman, 26, began to harass her. "When she shouted, Salman threatened her with dire consequences," said the girl's father in the FIR.

The next day, the survivor consumed poison and shut herself in her room and when she did not come out till noon, her mother opened the door and found her unconscious, said the FIR.

Meanwhile, a shocking case has come to light from Sambhal where questions are being raised on the investigation of the police in the case of suspected murder of a lover couple.

Police claimed that after the marriage of the girl was fixed at another place, his lover killed her in anger and later he also committed suicide.

The girl was shot dead near a tube well in the forest of Maulagarh in Chandausi Kotwali area of Sambhal district. The lover of the girl was also found in critical condition near the dead body of the girl, and he died during treatment in Moradabad.

The boy and the girl were identified as Sachin and Manju of Chandausi police station area.

After the death of the girl, the youth had recorded the statement to the police before his death.

The deceased lover had accused unknown assailants of shooting him and the girl. The video of the victim giving a statement to the police went viral on social media, after which questions were raised on the disclosure made so far by the police.

The relatives of the deceased youth had accused the relatives of the girl of killing their son and also their daughter, terming it as 'honour killing’.

Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra, in a press conference, while disclosing the case of suspected murder of the lover couple, said that Sachin, after shooting his girlfriend Manju, committed suicide as his girlfriend's marriage was fixed at another place.

Mishra had also informed the media about the murder of the girl and the recovery of an illegal pistol used in the crime. The senior officer now claimed that they would look into the matter and verify the video which went viral.

Meanwhile, a Border Security Force jawan was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a farm in his village in Hiranwada under Babri area of Shamli district, police said on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Dheeraj Kumar (40).

A week ago, his wife had also died under mysterious circumstances. However, her family members alleged that Dheeraj and his relatives had forced her to commit suicide.

An FIR was also lodged on April 1 against Dheeraj and his two relatives for "forcing the woman to commit suicide" and the investigation is underway.

Amit Sharma said that his younger brother was posted in Gurugram and was on a month's leave. He lived with his wife and two children in the Nanauta area of Saharanpur district, but about a week ago his wife consumed poison and died.

Dheeraj went to the farm in the morning, and was later found unconscious. The family rushed him to a hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead, police said. The body was sent for post-mortem and a police spokesman said that the matter was being investigated.
