The disclosure of rampant corruption in the Police Department in transfers and promotions took an interesting turn when district police chief of Ghaziabad, showed his concern over the above news and had written a letter to immediately call a meeting of Indian Police Services (IPS) Association to pass a ‘Condemn Motion” in the matter besides deciding other course of action that how the honour and pride of elite cadre of the Centre could be re-stored.
Sources said that after SSP Ghaziabad, Dharmendra Yadav, had written a letter to president of IPS Association, requesting him to immediately called a meeting of the Association and decide date for calling Annual General Meeting (AGM) at earliest so that a Condemn Motion against the two Director General of Police, whose name came to the fore in the investigation by Agra Police, could be passed.
Interestingly the letter was written on Tuesday, and within 24-hours, the IPS Association held a meeting here in lucknow on Wednesday. They passed a resolution demanding a thorough, quick and fair investigation into the said matter. The Association has demanded that the guilty, irrespective of his stature, must by brought to book and made to face the law. It reiterated its commitment to probity in public life and to the zero tolerance policy of the government towards corruption. The office bearers submitted the resolution in this regard to chief secretary and DGP for further necessary action.
Meanwhile, the director general of police, AK Jain, claimed that the matter is still under investigation under a team headed by DIG of Agra Range, lakshmi Singh, and action against anyone will be only taken after the completion of the probe. However, he seems to be defending his former colleagues, who already pleaded their innocence and sees a larger conspiracy to damage their image. “It came in the investigation that the accused through computer software had cloned SIM cards of DG and other rank officers through which he send messages to extort money and only on above disclosure, Agra police arrested Shailendra Agarwal”, asserted Jain adding that so far 27 separate case has already been registered against Shailendra Agarwal, for such unlawful practices.
It may be mentioned that a probe into the mobile data of the Samajwadi Party leader, Shailendra Agarwal, arrested by Agra police more than a month back, made sensational disclosure revealing involvement of two former director general of police, along with some IAS officer for indulging in rampant corruption in posting and promotions in the Police Department. Inspector General (civil defense), Amitabh Thakur, who demanded action in the matter after writing a letter to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, as well as DGP, AK Jain, claimed that the two ex-DGPs whose name have come for having taken money through fraud SP leader Shailendra Agrawal of Agra are Al Banerjee and AC Sharma.
He said an SMS by Shailendra fixing 7 lakh rupees rate for posting of SI and its acceptance by an ex-DGP through SMS has come. Other SMSs were rate of 20 lakh rupees for Departmental Promotion of Sub-Inspectors have been agreed upon between Shailendra and another DGP have also come up. Thakur said that he made deep personal investigation in the matter and came to know that Al Banerjee is the DGP who fixed 7 lakh posting rate while A C Sharma is the ex-DGP who fixed 20lakh DPC rate.
Sources further confirmed that besides the two DGP rank officials, names of at least three senior IAS officer, one of whom earlier also remained as District Magistrate of Agra, also came to the fore in SMS scanning pointing that they also minted money through the Samajwadi Party leader by facilitation transfer and promotions in the Police Department.
