Apprehending a conspiracy to defame him by posting a communal comment in his fake Facebook account Urban Development and Minority Welfare Minister lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police saying some people were behind to destroy the communal peace of the state.

Visibly perturbed Azam Khan held a press conference and distributed the comment attributed to him in the Facebook account. “This comment is false. I do not have a Facebook account. Matter of fact I do not know how to operate computer. The comment posted in the Facebook with my picture was a malicious campaign to defame me,” he told reporters here on Thursday.

The comment attributed to the senior minister said he did not believe in secularism and said opportunist Hindu leaders might wear a Muslim cap for votes but Muslims will never have Rs tika’ on his forehead. The comment has invited over two dozen reactions.  “I do not blame people who reacted to this comment. Such a post deserves such bad comment,” he said and added: “I cannot even read this comment. It is so shameful.”

The fake Facebook account was opened on the name of Md Azam Khan from the ID uppolicepr@gmail.com. In a letter to the state DGP , copy of which sent to the Union Home Ministry and Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Azam Khan said that the Facebook post was very objectionable.
“This would be the third time in the recent past when such objectionable statement was loaded in the websites through fake IDs created on my name in Facebook,” he said.

He said earlier a person had threatened me on phone from Sambhal, while in October last a fake Facebook account was uploaded. Though he did not name anyone or any organisation that could launch such a malicious campaign against him, the minister said there is a  design to defame him through these communal statements. When asked whether anyone in Samajwadi party is behind this campaign, Md Azam Khan said: “I do not think so. No one in my party has the temerity to carry out such a campaign,” he said. He said police should take action against these anti-national forces and punish them at the earliest.
