Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati expressed concern on the recovery of the body of a four-year-old Dalit girl from a paddy field in Aligarh and demanded justice for the family after a proper inquiry.
In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Mayawati said, "In Aligarh district, the body of an innocent Dalit girl was found lying in a paddy field. The family has expressed suspicion of murder after rape. This incident is very serious and the government must ensure justice to the victim's family by getting the matter investigated properly."
The four-year-old girl went missing after she went out to play with her mates on Sunday evening. After searching for a while, the harried family informed the police about her disappearance but the police failed to locate her. On Monday morning, her body was found from a paddy field in Gonda area of Aligarh, about 50 metre from her house.
Meanwhile, the minor's family alleged that the victim’s legs were tied and she was probably sexually assaulted before being killed. However, the post-mortem revealed that the minor died due to asphyxia caused by drowning. Doctors also took her vaginal swab samples to confirm if she was raped. The report is still pending.
A case in this regard was registered by the police and the charge of murder was added to the FIR. An investigation has been started into the incident and efforts are underway to identify and nab the accused.
