Maya flays Centre for refusing caste census of BCs

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati expressed grave concern over the Central government’s refusal for caste census of Backward Classes and said that it exposed that the Bharatiya Janata Party was using the community only for its electoral interests.

Mayawati's reaction came after the Centre told the Supreme Court that caste census of Backward Classes was “administratively difficult and cumbersome” and excluding such information from the purview of census was a “conscious policy decision”.

In a series of tweets posted on Friday, Mayawati said, "The categorical refusal of the Central government to conduct caste census of Backward Classes by filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court is a very serious and very contemplative issue, which exposes the OBC politics of the BJP. This exposes the electoral interests of the BJP and shows the difference in their words and deeds."

In another tweet, the BSP leader posted, "Like the SC and ST, the demand for conducting caste census of OBCs has gained a lot of emphasis in the whole country, but the clear refusal of the Centre is going to hurt the whole society in the same way and will affect their future by not filling up of their backlog vacancies in government jobs."
