Maneka Gandhi to open 'Rape Crisis Centre' in Badaun soon

Biswajeet, PNS

After Badaun was rocked by an incident of rape by two police men Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said very soon a ‘Rape Crisis Centre’ would be opened in Badaun, the first in Uttar Pradesh.

“Badaun would have a rape crisis centre to deal with the incidents of rapes and help the victims,” she said while reacting to rape of a 14-year-old girl by two policemen in Musaghaj police station campus on the New Year eve. She said that Badaun is a rape prone area and hence there is an immediate need for setting up of a rape crisis center which would be opened in couple of months. The victim needs counseling because she is traumatized. She needs care. The family of the victim also needs counseling and for this we need a centre, Menaka said.

“This incident speaks volumes about law and order situation in the state. If policemen take law in their hands who will protect the peopleIJ. UP government should take a strict action against these guilty people,” she said. Menaka Gandhi had represented the area which falls under Aonla Parliamentary seat during her last term as MP. Now she has shifted to Pilibhit lok Sabha seat.

Badaun earned a bad name when last year two cousin sisters were raped and murdered in Katra village. But the CBI probe claimed the girls had committed suicide.
