Advocating use of bicycle Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the Uttar Pradesh would be known for cycle tracks in the country and very soon lucknow will be branded as the cycling city.
"Samajwadi party government has promoted cycling in a big way. We have plans to have cycle tracks in almost all the big cities. This will not only ensure good health for the people but also protect the environment,” Yadav said after flagging of bikeathon programme here on Sunday.
"lucknow has already got cycle-tracks which run parallel to the main roads. This network will increase and soon the city of Nawab would also be known as a city of cycle-tracks in the country," he said.
The CM said that Samajwadi party always promotes cycling and has even made bicycle as its election symbol. This was done because it is poor man’s `sawari’ (mode of transportation) but now everyone is looking forward to adopt cycling so that they can remain healthy, he said.
“I will appeal to the people to adopt cycling as their mode of transportation. The cycle track built by my government will help people enjoy cycling and will also improve traffic flow on the main roads,” he said.
Hundred of children participated in the cycling event which started from K D Singh Babu stadium.
