Corona curfew was withdrawn in four more districts as the active cases came down below 600 on Sunday. Now, only four districts of UP will have curfew restrictions, a government spokesman said on Sunday.

The districts where corona curfew was lifted on Sunday included Varanasi, Gautam Buddha Nagar,  Ghaziabad  and Muzaffarnagar. Lucknow, Meerut, Saharanpur and Gorakhpur will continue to be under the corona curfew as the active cases in these districts are more than 600.

On Sunday, 1,165 fresh cases were reported in the state while 2,446 patients recovered. The cases came down to single digit in 36 districts while the Covid positivity rate in five districts is between 1 and 1.2 per cent. In the remaining districts, it is under 1 per cent.

In Lucknow, 42 fresh Covid cases were detected while 159 recoveries were recorded. The active cases came down to 999 while five patients succumbed to the deadly infection.

The total active cases have come down to 17,928 even as 10,141 of them are under treatment in home isolation. The total fatalities reported in the last 24 hours were 85, with Shahajahanpur accounting for the maximum (11) deaths.

In the last 24 hours, 3,09,674 samples were tested. The total tests conducted in the state have gone up to 5,13,42,537. The positivity rate was 0.4 percent while the recovery rate was 96.7%.

In a bid to break the Covid transmission chain, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday emphasised on the need to intensify contact tracing for early detection and treatment of patients.

“Contact tracing needs to be upped to break the chain of infection. On confirmation of each positive case, at least 15 people who might have been in direct contact with the patients should be traced and tested to ensure early detection and treatment,” the CM said in a high-level Covid review meeting on Sunday.

These combined endeavours are the only way to keep the COVID-19 death rate low and prevent the spread of infection, Adityanath said.
