A lovesick youth, on Sunday, strangled a 14-year-old minor girl to death in Bhopa area of Muzaffarnagar district after she refused to marry him.
Police identified the accused as Sonu Banjara of Hajipur village under Bhopa police station of Muzaffarnagar and the victim as Priyanshi (14), who lived in his neighborhood.
Senior Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said after registering a case the accused was arrested on Monday and the body was sent for autopsy.
The SSP said that Priyanshi was missing since last Saturday and her body was recovered from a sugarcane field on Sunday evening.
The girl's father alleged that Sonu was exerting pressure on his daughter to marry him but she had refused.
After this, Sonu threatened the girl's family with dire consequences and said that if Priyanshi did not marry him he would eliminate her so that she did not marry anyone else.
The accused has confessed to killing the girl.
