PNS

In a suspected case of honour killing, a woman and her lover were killed by her brother and their bodies were dumped in a drain, police said on Sunday.

The double-murder came to light after the assailant, Neetu, a resident of Rajepur Saraimeda in Farukkabad district, went to the city police station in the early hours of Sunday and confessed to having killed his sister Shivani (23) and her lover Ramkaran (25).

Shivani`s family did not approve of her relationship with Ramkaran, the police said.

On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Shivani and Ramkaran eloped only to be later found in a compromising position by her brother Neetu. He brutally hacked both to death with a sharp-edged weapon. The bodies were later recovered from a drain.

An FIR has been registered in this connection on a complaint filed by Ramkaran`s father Mahaveer Jatav, police added.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena said the case was being probed.

Meanwhile, police arrested two persons for allegedly beating a Dalit man to death for plucking guava in Aligarh.

The accused, identified as Bhimsen and Banwarilal, were arrested for beating and killing Omprakash with sticks after he plucked guava from an orchard.

The deceased's brother, Satyaprakash, said, "My brother had gone to relieve himself and while returning, he ate guava from the orchard, following which he was beaten to death. We came to know about the killing after a boy came and told us about it."

After the incident, police reached the spot and rushed Omprakash to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim's body was sent for autopsy.

Circle Officer Abhay Kumar said both the accused were arrested, and further legal action was underway.

Cases were registered against the two accused under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Act.

Meanwhile, in a tragic incident, a 19-year-old girl from Meerut, who had cleared NEET this year and was supposed to start counseling shortly at a college in Mumbai, jumped to death from a water tank after one of the street dogs she fed regularly was injured in an accident and died.

The girl was identified as Gauri Tyagi.

The girl's neighbours said that Gauri was fond of pets and always fed stray animals. On Thursday evening, she went for a walk and found that the dog had been hit by a vehicle. She brought it home and tried to save it, but the animal died.

Gauri refused to have dinner that evening as she could not forget the incident. The next day, she climbed a water tank, 300 metres from her house, and jumped off. She succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital and her family cremated her soon after in their ancestral village.

According to a senior police officer, Gauri used to live with her parents at Shraddhapuri colony in Kankarkhera area. Her father works as a security officer in GAIL and her elder brother is an engineer. Gauri found a wounded stray dog on Thursday and brought it home. She also spoke to a vet over the phone. But the dog was in severe pain and died in front of her. Her grandmother and others consoled her.

The senior cop further said, "The next day at around 9:45 am, Gauri fed the other stray animals and left home. A few local residents later found her lying in a pool of blood next to an overhead water tank. They informed her family. Soon, it was all over."

Daurala Circle Officer Abhishek Patel said that a police team went to the site, but the girl's family told them that they did not want to take the case forward. Patel added: "In fact, her father, quite shattered, informed the cops that Gauri fell from the roof of their house and not the water tank."
