Ruling Samajwadi Party MlA from Charkhari, Kaptan Singh Rajput, would now face disqualification as the local court in Jalaun convicted him with life imprisonment, in a 12-year-old murder case. His brother was also convicted and get life-imprisonment. Reports said that Special Judge (anti-dacoity) Sanjay Kumar, who convicted the SP MlA and his brother laxman Singh, on Saturday, delivered the quantum of punishment on Monday afternoon.
The judge awarded life imprisonment to Kaptan Singh along with his brother. According to the prosecution, Kishan was attacked and killed by Kaptan and his brother on April 20, 2002. An FIR was lodged against Kaptan, laxman and nine others in this connection. Both Kaptan and laxman, were sent to jail amidst tight police security. Kaptan Singh would now faced disqualification as an MP or MlA loses membership of the House if he was convicted by a court in a criminal offence with a jail sentence of two years or more.
