Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s father Shyam Lal Maurya (89) died after prolonged illness in Lucknow on Saturday afternoon.
He was undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow where he breathed his last.
The Deputy Chief Minister was on his way to Allahabad for a programme when he received information about the death of his father and rushed back to the state capital.
The body of Shyam Lal Maurya was taken to their native place Sirathu in Kaushambi, where the last rites would be performed.
President Ram Nath Kovind who arrived in Lucknow on Saturday, drove straight to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and condoled the death of Shyam Lal Maurya.
Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP state chief Mahendra Nath Pandey and other party leaders and ministers also expressed grief on the death of Shyam Lal Maurya.
