The Uttar Pradesh government said on Friday that if the Kanwar Yatra was allowed, it would strictly be in accordance with Covid protocol and with the consent of Kanwar associations.
In this regard, the government instructed district administrations to establish communication with Kanwar associations in view of the pandemic so that the right decision could be taken on organising the yatra.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi and DGP Mukul Goel have also been instructed to communicate with other states regarding Kanwar Yatra.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has fixed July 19 as the date of the next hearing on this matter. The UP government is putting all efforts to make sure that the religious sentiments of the devotees are not offended but at the same time those participating in the Kanwar Yatra are protected against the deadly viral infection.
For this, the government has stepped up surveillance ahead of the Kanwar Yatra which will start on the first day of Sawan on July 25, 2021. Necessary guidelines have also been issued to the district administrations regarding the smooth conduct of the traditional yatra. It is worth mentioning that in 2020, the Kanwar associations had suspended the yatra on their own after talks with the state government and this year too, the administration has been in constant touch with these associations.
