Deputy Chief Minister and Secondary Education minister Dinesh Sharma said that the state government will take help from Special Task Force (STF)  and local Intelligence Unit to curb cheating in high school and Intermediate examinations and also keep an eye on ‘education mafia’ infamous for mass cheating.

“Police is on the job and those taking contracts for ensuring copying at examination centers will land in jail,” Sharma said here in lucknow Friday.

The number of examinations centres has come down from over 12,000 to 8,500. It has also been ensured that centres have enough space to accommodate students and also provided adequate facilities.

“Copying mafia have been identified and district officials of Secondary Education department have also been asked to take help of lIU during examinations to keep a tab on their activities,” Sharma said.

“The government has also made it mandatory for examination centres to install CCTV cameras,” he said.

The Deputy CM said that the government has made its stand clear that no unfair means would be tolerated and anyone found copying or promoting it, would be dealt with strictly.

“We have studied all possible ways and means of unfair means during examinations. Those appearing in an exam impersonating someone else or involved in changing answer sheets will not be able to do so. Effective measures have been initiated,” Sharma said.

“I want to assure students that they need not fear for anything and they will get a congenial atmosphere at examination centers. They should study hard and appear for exams without any pressure,” he said.

Measures to prevent cheating include frisking students before entering examination halls, dividing centres in sectors, appointing administrative officers as sector magistrates and issuing prohibitory orders within 100 meters of the centre.

The UP Board examination for Classes 10 and 12 start from February 6 and will continue till March 12. A total of 66,37 lakh students have registered to appear in this year’s exams. This include nearly 36, 55 lakh candidates for Class 10 and 29,81 lakh students for Class 12.

last year, 1,862 students were caught cheating. and the overall pass percentage for Class 10 was recorded at 81.18 percent and 82.62 percent for Class 12.
