Over a dozen teams of sleuths of the Income Tax department comprising of over 100 staff conducted simultenous raids on all the establishments of Ram Murti Smarak Medical College in Bareilly and on lucknow-Unnao highway in lucknow and Unnao along with another group running Rohilkhand Medical College, on Thursday. The team said to have recovered huge unaccounted wealth, indiscrimination documents, and other belongings all pointing towards large scale irregularities.
``So far we received Rs 15 crore in cash, over 6 Kg of gold including ornaments and also detected six lockers three belong to each of the two groups on which they conducted raids. We are going through verification process and once the exercise would be completed, we well serve notices to the above groups and would seek explanation from them about the unaccounted wealth”, disclosed , Krishna Saini, Director (Investigation) in the Income Tax Department. While Dev Murti group is owned by Dev Murti and Aditya Murti, Rohilkhand Medical College is run by Keshav Agarwal and Ashok Agarwal.
Giving details of the raids here on Thursday evening, Krishna said that they had information about large scale concealment of earning by the above two groups which they earned through capitation fees or through other form of selling management quota seats so they formed teams which started search operations of all the establishments of the said groups in Bareilly and in lucknow and adjoining areas. The raid which started at all the 33 establishments of the two groups on Thursday morning with the help of four platoons of Central Reserve Police Force continued at the time of filing this report. Sources said that the IT sleuths sealed the premises and not allowed anyone to move inside or to go out during the search operation.
It may be mentioned that both the above groups were already in trouble as the sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Cell of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), lucknow already tightened their nose regarding large scale bungling in the Medical College of both the groups. Interestingly, to forward undue advantage to the above two groups, than chairman of the Medical Council of India (MCI), Ketan Desai was also arrested by the CBI. The investigation pointed out that Ketan Desai has played with the career a large number of students along with that of general public by producing unqualified doctors. Sources said that the CBI during raids conducted at Rohelkhand Medical College and Ram Murti Medical College in Bareilly few years back recovered large number of documents which pointed that how the college management managed to get a recognition of the MCI even when it had no proper teaching faculty, equipment, or other basic requirements which are necessary to impart training to the students. However, how just by greasing the palms of the MCI team, the above colleges got recognition could be easily gauged by the fact that it took no time for Ketan Desai to give them nod.
Sources said that a MCI team visited Ram Murti Medical College in Bareilly for inspection on February 20, 2009, again on March 13, 2009 and finally on May 4, 2009 that refused to give them recognition claiming that the college failed to meet out norms laid down by MCI. However, a MCI team again made a visit on May 25, 2009 and made a `U’ turn by claiming that everything is fit and on June 10, 2009 they informed the Government to give recognition to the above College for the next session. The case of Rohelkhand Medical College was more interesting. The MCI team visited the College for inspection in May 2008 and on September 12, 2008, they informed the College that their proposal to give recognition to their courses for next session has been rejected. About two weeks later, another MCI team visited the college on September 25, 2008 and issued a favourable report. On the very next day, i.e September 26 the Government was informed to give them recognition.
