In yet another twist in the probe into killing of National Investigating Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed, officiating IG (law and order) Deepak Ratan contradicted the stand taken by the UP Police brass.

The probe into the grisly killing has seen a contradictions galore with top cops claiming that nothing concrete had emerged in the week long probe despite quizing more than a hundred suspects while on the contrary, the UP Police announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on Muneer terming him as the prime accused and executor in the case.

On Monday evening, Deepak Ratan while speaking to the media at the Secretarit Annexe, ruled out that Muneer was at all wanted. He casually said that Muneer was neing sought to quiz him oevr the NIA officer’s s murder and he was not an accused.

Ratan explained that the cash reward of Rs 50,000 on the arrest of Muneer was announced since he was wanted in connection with two murders and other crimes in Aligarh.

“The probe into Deputy SP Tanzil Ahmed’s murder is still on. Various motives have been examined in the process of interrogating more than a hundred suspects. But so far nothing conclusive has came up,” said Ratan.

Sources said that the move to deny earlier statement of a top cop had been made to save him embarrassment who on one hand admitted no concrete development in the murder case last Friday but minutes later, declard Muneer as a `prime accused’ for the same murder and announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000.
