IAS Week begins

PNS, Biswajeet

The much awaited IAS week begins on Thursday amid large scale transfer of bureaucrats carried out by the Akhilesh Yadav Government in last one week despite union government directive to give a long stint to the officials.

This issue of frequent transfers is likely to be taken up in the Annual General Meeting slated for Saturday. "This is a serious issue. It is better for the Government to give a long stint of official, particularly at the district level, to implement policies. This is a known fact that those officers who have got a long tenure at a particular place performed well," a senior official said.

Though the IAS Week began on Thursday, the focus of the meet would be when Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would spell out government directives to these bureaucrats in a meeting to be held on Friday at Tilak Hall. This being election year the district magistrates and Commissioners will have all ears to what Akhilesh Yadav says.

The state bureaucracy has been on the receiving end for the last few months after legislators have complained to Chief Minister that officials do not listen to them. The law makers, come of them having minister rank, have said that DMs and Commissioners do not receive calls. The CM is likely to broach this issue in the Administrative conference.

"This is a routine of IAS Week. Chief Minister addresses bureaucrats in Administrative meeting showcases the policies of the government. In the evening we will have a service dinner and the next day - on Saturday - we will have AGM," Alok Ranjan, President UP IAS Association told The Pioneer here on Thursday.

He said the AGM being an open house the members are free to raise any issue. If a consensus is made on any issue that resolution is passed and the proposal is sent to the Government for approval.
