A day after an FIR was lodged against Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan for making derogatory remarks against Dr BR Ambedkar, the SP leader hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party, saying that he had become an “ item girl” for the ruling party.
"I am the item girl of the BJP. They contested the 2017 UP assembly election making me a poll issue and I suspect that they will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election around my personality. The situation is so bad that I do not know how many cases have been lodged against me and in which police station of the 75 districts of the state. I come to know only after either the summon or bailable and non-bailable warrants are issued by courts," Azam Khan said in Budaun on Wednesday.
Dr Lalji Nirmal, a BJP leader and chairman of Ambedkar Mahasabha had lodged an FIR against Azam Khan here on Tuesday, alleging that the SP leader and former minister had used derogatory words against Dr Ambedkar while inaugurating the Haj House at Ghaziabad in 2016.
Claiming that he had no assets and had only one bank account, the SP leader said if anyone knew about his other assets or bank accounts, he was ready to be hanged on the Qutub Minar.
Appealing to the people to wait for the Supreme Court’s verdict on Ram temple at Ayodhya, Azam Khan said, “Everyone knows about the conspiracy of the BJP and they can do anything for their political gains.”
Azam Khan, who attended a meeting of Muslim Mushwarat, said there was pressing need for Dalits, Muslims and OBCs to unite and come on one political platform. He said the BJP claimed that it had given LPG connections to millions of poor people but the cooking gas cylinders were now empty as people did not have money to get them refilled.
