Slapping of a police constable by a personal guard of a ruling party parliamentarian led to a huge demonstration in Jaunpur on Thursday. Sensing trouble, the MP, who was in another vehicle, left the spot, leaving his security staff behind to face the situation.
Interestingly, the entire incident took place just opposite the Kotwali Madiyahon.
As per a video that went viral, a ruling party MP was passing through a busy intersection when his and another vehicle of his cavalcade occupied by his personal security staff got stuck in the traffic jam.
A police constable manning the crowd stopped the MP’s SUV but as it went ahead he questioned the driver and again went back to control the traffic.
The video showed that a personal guard (shadow) of the MP stepped out of the SUV and went to the constable and hurling abuses on him he slapped the policeman and went back to the SUV.
The constable was shocked and went back to his post to control the traffic but the local public stopped the MP’s driver and later created a ruckus. The public also joined some constables who too protested over slapping of their colleague.
As the incident took place right in front of Madiyahon Kotwali, some more cops reached there and somehow paved the way for the SUV to enter the police station premises before the mob turned violent.
In the meantime, the MP, who was in another SUV, slipped from the spot, leaving his personal security behind.
Meanwhile, despite the notice served on him by the BJP bosses over his recent remarks, party MLA Surendra Singh on Thursday again defended a murder accused, saying “a criminal got killed at the hands of a soldier in the firing”. He was defending the Ballia case main accused who is the district unit president of the BJP Ex-Servicemen Cell.
Local BJP leader Dhirendra Pratap Singh had shot dead a 46-year-old man following a quarrel over the allotment of ration shops in Ballia district’s Durjanpur village on October 15.
Surendra Singh, the MLA from Bairia, had come out in his support, saying Dhirendra Pratap Singh had “opened fire in self-defence” as “it was a do-or-die situation for him”.
“Jai Prakash Pal Gama, who was killed in the firing incident, was a criminal. He had four cases of train dacoity against him,” Surendra Singh told reporters in Ballia.
