Horror-struck families of the two girls, who were hung from a tree after they were raped and murdered in Badayun last week, on Monday, sat on a dharna to protest against the state government for suspecting it to be a case of ‘honour killing’ case and also sheltering the accused.
“What the pathetic state. How can the state police suspect it to be a case of honour killing and doubt us,” questioned Sohanlal and Jeevanlal, the fathers of the deceased girls. Both sat on protest under the same tree by which the victims were found hung.
Father of one of the victim said it was very displeasing that state DGP A l Banerjee raised such doubts and also expressed a possibility of property-feud case.
“The one, who is entitled to get our property, will get it at the end. Why will we kill our daughters,” the teary-eyed fathers remarked.
“If we killed our daughters then who committed raped with the girlsIJ Is it also us,” they put a question. They said the autopsy, conducted by the state government machinery had revealed in its report that both the girls were raped and murdered. “Despite this truth, the top cops chose to twist the heat over the issue doubting the incident to be a case of honour killing or killing due to property related dispute.
Both alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav government was now misleading the people and the media and sheltering the accused. “We are here and don’t fear anything...the government can conduct Narco and lie detector tests on us,” they stated.
It may be mentioned that on May 27 last, two cousin sisters were gang raped by some youth. later, they were murdered and hanged to a mango tree in this district.
The issue had invited ire from the villagers who ganged up and raised stiff protest against the state government. It also came as a big problem putting the Akihlesh Yadav led government on the dock and also put a question mark on the law and order situation. The issue later took a centre stage and political parties across the country and different NGOs severely criticized the state government.
Pushed on back foot, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav came down heavily on the media for highlighting the matter out of proportion. Even after the damage control measures the heat over the issue did not die down. ‘The media has through its biased coverage hyped the matter and it seems as if crime is taking place only in UP,’ Yadav had said. later wilting to the pressure of the villagers and contain the public outcry, the government had recommended a CBI probe into the issue on the demand of the bereaved family.
