Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan has alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government has unleashed vendetta against his family as they were even accused of stealing goats.
The Rampur MLA also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Agnipath scheme, saying that it was quite evident how “beneficial” it was for the youth who were agitating over it.
“Dictatorship will be better than the present situation prevailing in the state. The state government is working in an autocratic manner,” the SP leader, who was recently released from jail on an interim bail granted by the Supreme Court, said while campaigning for the bypoll to the Rampur Lok Sabha seat.
“Allegations like having stolen hen and goat, robbing a liquor shop were leveled against me and my family. In such a situation, you yourself can understand the level of the vendetta by the government,” said Khan, who was in Sitapur jail for 27 months before his release.
“The treatment given to my city, my district and my loved ones, I can bet no government in the world would have treated any political leader so badly. No government would have stooped so low to lodge cases such as robbing liquor shops and theft of Rs 16,000 from my college against me,” he said.
On the Agnipath scheme, Azam Khan said, “All know who will benefit from the Agnipath scheme. Everyone knows the whole country is burning. It is clear from the circumstances what interest of youth the Agnipath scheme will serve.”
