With the aim to make Anganwadi centres self-reliant, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued a directive asking public representatives, officials and educational institutions to adopt these centres.
“The state government has issued guidelines for adoption of Anganwadi centres so that they may be transformed into model centres. District magistrates have been asked to give permission to agencies which wish to adopt Anganwadi centres,” a government spokesman said here on Thursday.
After the adoption, the Anganwadi centers will have to provide kits of 24 types of education related materials, the official said and added: “This will ensure all-round development of children from newborn to six years of age through Anganwadi centres.”
As per the guidelines, public representatives and officials in the districts, higher educational institutions, industrial institutions and other institutions can adopt Anganwadi centres with the permission of the district magistrate. These centres will be developed as ‘Adarsh Anganwadi Centre’.
These centres will be entrusted with the work to make the area malnutrition free, and improve the level of non-formal education (ECCE) for children between three and six years of age.
The list of Anganwadi centres to be adopted in the district will be made available by the district programme officer or child development project officer to the adopting institution. At least three Anganwadi centres are to be adopted by each educational institution.
The progress report of the adopted Anganwadi centres will be sent by the district programme officer to the government and directorate and will centre around child development services and monitoring of nutrition level every month.
The time period stipulated for developing the adopted Anganwadi centres as ‘Model Anganwadi Centres’ will be of six months, the official said.
