Governor Ram Naik has given his assent allowing the court to start a case under Anti-corruption Act against former Bahujan Samaj Party Higher Education minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi.

The Governor acted on the recommendation of the state government, a Raj Bhawan spokesman said in lucknow on Tuesday.

Following a complaint, the Vigilance Establishment had detected disproportionate assets worth over Rs 1.35 crore – which is around 295 per cent more, than the actual income of the BSP leader. The former minister was not able to exaplain the source of this income.

Tripathi, who was the Higher Education minister in the previous BSP government led by Mayawati between May 13, 2007 and October 15, 2011, had amassed properties and assets worth over Rs 1.81 crore against his known income of Rs 45.82 lakh.

In June 2013, the Samajwadi Party government had given permission to the police to register case against the former minister. In November, 2014, Tripathi was expelled from the BSP following allegations of anti-party activities.
