Uttar Pradesh Governor  Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders paid tributes to late Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his 116th birth anniversary on Sunday, saying the contribution he made for the welfare of poor and downtrodden was unparalleled.

Chaudhary Charan Singh’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Kisan Diwas.

The Chief Minister, while paying floral tributes to the farmers’ leader on Vidhan Bhawan premises, said the Bharatiya Janata Party government was looking after the well-being of the farmers and due to its initiative the income of farmers had now reached one-and-half times of their cost production.

The Chief Minister also maintained that the farmers’ insurance scheme had benefited the rural populace of the country and now they were doing their agricultural work without any tension.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government at the Centre is working for the benefit of farmers in the country,” he said.

Talking about the initiatives taken by his government, Yogi said after he came to power, crop loans amounting to over Rs 23,000 crore of 86 lakh farmers were waived.

The Governor said that farmers were ‘annadata’ (food providers) in the true sense. He said that in 1950s, when India faced one of the severest drought, the farmers brought prosperity by bringing green revolution in the country and later, the farmers diversified to bring white revolution which transformed the dairy industry.

In Lucknow, a havan was performed at the BJP state office and later the party leaders and workers took out a march to garland the statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh at Vidhan Bhawan.
