A minor girl was reportedly hacked to death by her brother in the name of saving Rsfamily honour’ in Rae Bareli while another girl was critically injured when she made self-immolation bid after being teased by a local youth in Bareilly.
In Rae Bareli, one 15-year-old Gomati, hailing from Takiya Maidanpur hamlet of City Kotwali area in Rae Bareli, was having love affair. Her parents and family members were against her affair and had warned her along with the boy to end it or be ready to face the consequences. However, when the girl refused to listen to her family members, her brother Pintu, who saw both together on Tuesday evening, reportedly hacked the girl with sharp edged weapon. A case has been registered in this regard and efforts were on to nab the culprit.
In Bareilly, a 15-year-old girl identified as Pooja, a resident of Ansari locality of Fatehganj, was admitted in Medical College with more then 60 percent burn injuries on Tuesday. Her father Sanjeev Singh, claimed that the victim made self-immolation bid to end her life as she was fed up with regular eve-teasing and sexual advances of one Raja, a resident of the same locality. He claimed that they made several complaints of Raja both to his family and to the local police but both took no cognizance so the accused continued to tease his daughter. He said that finally going under trauma, his daughter finally poured kerosene and set her ablaze to commit suicide. However, they somehow doused the fire and rushed her to hospital where she was still battling for her life.
Meanwhile in Badaun, a case was registered against a BJP leader for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman for last six years. Reports said that a FIR has been registered against BJP leader Umesh Thakur for sexually exploiting a woman and making her clip. Superintendent of Police in Badaun, Saumitra Yadav said the victim had met him and he has ordered a probe into the matter and directed in-charge of the city police station to look into it. later, police registered an FIR in this connection. Thakur has termed the FIR against him as a “political conspiracy”. As per the complaint by the woman, Thakur was sexually exploiting the victim since February 14, 2009 and on August 10 this year he “threatened” the woman, if she resisted him. Thakur had contested previous assembly polls and is vying for BJP ticket in 2017 elections.
In a separate case reported from Muzaffarnagar, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in Kheri Rajputana village when she had gone out to relieve herself. Reports said that three youths picked up the class X student and took her to a nearby field and allegedly gang-raped her on Tuesday evening. The accused allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone. However, one of the accused has been identified as Prashant. The accused persons are still at large and efforts are on to nab them.
Meanwhile, in a month-old alleged gangrape case at Naglarai village in Shamli district, a gram pradhan was arrested on Tuesday evening. Farzand Ali was arrested while three of his co-accused in the case are still absconding. In yet another case, two youths have been arrested for allegedly harassing girls on their way to college at Gharipukhta village in Shamli district. Mukeem and Harun of Gharipukhta village were arrested all charges of harassing girls belonging to Purmali village. The other two accused are absconding.
The girls used to attend a college at Gharipukhta village and the accused allegedly harassed them on their way, police said. The girls’ families had registered a complaint on August 1 accusing four youths in the case. Two of them were arrested following threat by people to hold a community panchayat to press for their demand. A case has been registered against the accused under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
