A girl was brutally murdered by her father in the name of saving ‘family honour’ in Firozabad while another girl was battered to death by her brothers over property related dispute in Sambhal.
According to reports from Firozabad, a man saw her daughter in a compromising position with a youth on Tuesday and in rage he slit her throat with a saw while she was sleeping early on Friday morning. To conceal his crime, the man told the neighbours that his daughter had committed suicide.
However, during investigation the police found the girl’s throat slit and grilled the man who broke down and confessed to the crime.
Sources said Ruchi, of Tilaknagar locality of Firozabad, was having an affair with a youth living in Etah. The girl’s father, Manoj Rathore, was opposed to her affair as the youth belonged to another religion. Last Tuesday, Manoj saw his daughter in a compromising position with the youth. When he objected, Ruchi said that she would marry the youth and even hurled abuses at her father.
Upset with this, when his wife Nagina, two other daughters Pallavi and Bhumi and son Gagan were sleeping on the ground floor, Manoj went to Ruchi’s room in the early hours of Friday and killed her.
Firozabad’s Superintendent of Police Dr Akhilesh Narayan Singh said that he received information about the murder of an 18-year-old girl and the killer was arrested and he had confessed his crime. He said the weapon used in the murder was also recovered by the police and a forensic team was helping in the investigation of the case.
Another honour killing was reported from Jaunpur where the girl's family members allegedly caught a youth when he came to meet his lover and tied him to a tree. They later contacted the relatives of the youth and called them to take him back. However, when the relatives reached, they found the youth dead.
The relatives alleged that the victim died after being brutally beaten up with sticks and rods by the girl's family members.
The incident took place in Vijadharmau village of Mungra Badshahpur area in Jaunpur district on Friday morning.
Police claimed to have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem.
The cops said that further action would be taken on the basis of the autopsy report.
In Sambhal, a girl was beaten to death by her brothers over a property related dispute. The incident took place in Laxminagar Dhurata village under Hayathnagar police station on Thursday night.
After getting information, the police reached the village but both brothers and their families were found absconding from the house.
Reports said that Ram Kunwar and his wife of Laxmi Nagar Dhuraita village had died a few months apart, 15 years ago. They had two sons, Vinod Chandra and Sarvesh Chandra, and a daughter Mukesh Kumari (35). Apart from this, there was another daughter who was married in Moradabad.
After the death of the parents, the brothers did not marry their sister Mukesh Kumari and she used to cultivate six bighas of land. On Wednesday, Mukesh Kumari’s brother set her paddy crop on fire as they wanted to take possession of the land she was cultivating. When Mukesh Kumari filed a complaint against her brothers, they asked her to give up her claim on the land.
On Thursday night, when Mukesh Kumari warned her brothers that she would lodge a report if they damaged her crop, both brothers brutally battered her to death and escaped.
Some local residents shifted the victim to a hospital but the doctors pronounced her dead.
Police said that Pappu, a local resident, was also injured as he tried to save Mukesh Kumari. Police have launched a hunt for both the brothers and their family members.
