The Election Commission of India has made elaborate arrangements to conduct free and fair polling in Ghosi which goes to bypoll on Tuesday.

The bypoll was caused by the resignation of Samajwadi Party MLA Dara Singh Chauhan who is now contesting the by-election on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

A total of 10 candidates are in the fray in Ghosi. The Election Commission has set up 455 polling booths and 239 polling stations for the polling. The EC said the facility of drinking water, toilets and ramps had been provided at each polling station.

About 4.30 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise on Tuesday, which includes 2.31 lakh males and 1.99 lakh females. The EC has deployed one general observer, one expenditure observer and one police observer. For supervising law and order, 27 sector magistrates and two zonal magistrates have also been deployed.

The bypoll in Ghosi is witnessing a direct contest between Dara Singh Chauhan of the ruling BJP and Sudhakar Singh of the SP. The Ghosi bypoll will be a litmus test for the newly-formed Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). The counting of votes will be taken up on Friday.

The outcome of the bypoll is expected to give a sneak peek into the strength of INDIA bloc as well as a hint of public perception about its viability and effectiveness.
