Fate of Conversion

Biswajeet, PNS

With two-day BJP state working committee meeting beginning Saturday in Vidhyachal can the party stay away from the conversion controversyIJ This is the question that is taking round in the political circles.

BJP state president laxmikant Bajpai clarified that conversion was not on the agenda of the party and there was no question of any discussion on the matter. But many of the leaders felt that how can party stay from this issue which is hogging limelight.

“Two of party’s MPs Yogi Adityanath (Gorakhpur) and Satish Gautam (Aligarh) have voiced support for religion conversion being proposed in Aligarh on December 25. Can the party steer clear of this issue in this meeting,” a senior state working committee member told The Pioneer hereon Friday.

He said that this issue is likely to be discussed in closed room. leaders might be asked not to give statement but would definitely be told to keep their eyes and ears open.

Interestingly, the last state executive meet held in August in Vrindavan was mired by the controversy over ‘love Jehad’. The issue was slated to be discussed in the meeting but at the last moment it was cancelled. But by then the damage was done.

“This state working committee could face the same situation. Will the party be able to steer clear of controversy only time will tell,” he said.

BJP general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Om Prakash Mathur will inaugurate the meeting while Shiv Prakash, national General  Secretary(Joint) organisation will preside over closing function.
