Farmer sentiments exploited by BJP govt : Akhilesh

PNS

Hitting out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that since the Yogi Government has come to power it has exploited farmers by playing with their sentiments and depriving them of their basic rights.

“The BJP gained publicity by claiming that it had waived crop loans of farmers. But the fact is that genuine farmers have been deprived of this benefit. This is a matter of probe as to who are the farmers who got money in the name of loan waiver. The Yogi Government will never do it because it knows that if a probe was ordered, the truth would come out,” Yadav said in a statement issued in lucknow on Friday.

The SP chief said that the government announced just Rs 10 as increase in SAP of sugar cane ina similar fashion which was hardly going to help sugarcane farmers. "The government is playing in the hands of sugar mill owners, the former Chief Minister said.

“Similar is the case with potato farmers. The Government had announced MSP of potato but can the Chief Minister tell a single farmer who got that money. Potato growers were forced to keep their produce in cold storages and had to face huge losses,” he said.

Yadav said that because of anti-farmers policies, the farm sector has started bearing the brunt and referred to a farmer in Nukkad of Saharanpur district ending hius life as he did not get good remunerative prices for his produce.

“Similar reports are pouring from different parts of the state. This is an ominous sign for the farming sector. If the 'annadata' (food provider) is not happy how can the state progress,” Akhilesh asked.
