District administration to be on high alert

Despite warning from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asking district administration to be on high alert, the terror of feral dogs continue to stalk rural areas of Sitapur as one more girl was killed by a pack of stray dogs taking the canine menace toll to 13.

This was the seventh killing by stray dogs in May and 10th in the Khairabad area of Sitapur district.

Confirming the death, an official on Sunday said that the dogs attacked the girl when she was collecting mangoes from a grove in Khairabad’s Maheshpur Chilwara village.

“Reena, 12, died after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs,”  Superintendent of Police Anand Kulkarni told reporters. “The administration is alive to the situation. The number in the pack of dogs is declining,” he said.

The government has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family who lost their kid in the dog attacks and Rs 25,000 to the injured.

The terror of stray dogs is prevailing in Khiarabad, Imlia Sultanpur, Kotwali Sitapur and Taalgaon police station areas.

On May 11, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself carried out an inspection of the Khairabad region of Sitapur. Adityanath had directed the district officials, police and special team of the forest department to conduct a joint operation to catch all the stray dogs.

The police and the forest department are using drones and night binoculars to spot and catch the feral dogs.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders have attacked Mr Adityanath for not taking any action over the Sitapur dog bite incidents. SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said that Yogi government has failed on all fronts. When it cannot save children from stray dog how can CM say his governance is effective, he said.

“Just a few days back CM had gone to the affected area and issued directives to officials. What happened to those directives,” he said.
