District Excise Officer (DEO) and three head excise constables were suspended in the death case of eight persons who had consumed spurious liquor in Amethi.
The state government took a serious note of the deaths after the news was broke and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav issued suspension order of the DEO Amethi Rajkumar. He also ordered an inquiry against him.
Besides the DEO, three head excise constables were also suspended in the case.It may be mentioned that in Amethi, five persons of Shukul bazar, two of in Amethi area and one in Sangrampur had died after they consumed the spurious liquor. The incident created a lot of hue and cry and the government faced critics from several quarters on the issue.
