Even as Delhi Police dismissed a net generated voice call through which a caller threatened to kill Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as `hoax’ on Thursday, the UP Police took the matter seriously and handed over a probe to the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).

“Sleuths of ATS at Noida branch are busy probing the matter and trying to trace out the IP address as the call was made using Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP),” said Additional DG (law-and-order) Anand Kumar to reporters in lucknow on Friday.

Kumar said that if necessary, then adequate steps will be taken to further strengthen the Chief Minister’s security. He claimed that stapes have already been taken till the ATS would gets to the bottom and traces the caller.

Around 3.40 pm on Thursday, the Delhi Police went into a tizzy after a duty officer at Police Control Room received a call on phone number (011-23490310) made from suspicious number (005044), in which the caller said, “Yogi Adityanath ko bachana hai to char baje tak bacha lo,”( If you want to save Yogi Adityanath, then save him by 4pm) and disconnected the call.

Beside sharing the input with senior officers, the Delhi Police Control Room also apprised SSP lucknow and SSP Ghaziabad about the call. Soon after, all the agencies entrusted with Yogi’s security went on a high alert and safety measures were crossed checked.

Interestingly, the Delhi Police was quick enough to confirm that the call turned out to be a hoax. However, beside the UP ATS, the Delhi Police’ Special Cell is also looking into the matter.
