Claims of improvement in law and order by DGP, OP Singh, especially on ensuring safety of the fairer sex took a battering when a widow and the sole witness to her husband’s killing was sprayed with bullets by a BJP leader’s sons in Mainpuri on Friday.

Elsewhere in lalitpur, a Dalit woman and her daughter were stripped and assaulted by anti-socials. Interestingly while the police registered cases, they forgot to initiate any action against the culprits.

As per reports, Dipiti aka Bhawna (22) of Bichiya Road in Kotwali police station area of Mainpuri was the sole witness to her husband Billu Chauhan’s killing, who was murdered in 2015 by the sons of a prominent BJP leader. The assailants were continuously terrorising her not to depose in the court and ensure that they were not convicted. Dipti informed police officers several times about the threats and demanded security coverbutthe officers preferred to look the other way.

On Friday, while Dipti was going to the court for attending the trial of the case, two motorcycle-borne miscreants intercepted her in front of Bhadawar House at Bichiya road and peppered her with bullets. To ensure that the target did not survive the attack, the killers remained there for some time and only after assessing that she had succumbed, they left the scene.

Meanwhile in lalitpur, a woman and her daughter faced humiliation on Friday.

Halku of Raghunathpura in Kotwali police station area was involved in supply of illicit liquor. A local went ot get liquor from the vend on Thursday evening but did not return home. His wife later went to enquire about him from Halku. As Halku feigned ignorance, the woman toldd him that she would report the matter to the police if he did not reveal his whereabouts.

This agitated the supplier and he called his son. later, the duo forcibly removed the clothes of the woman, tied her to a tree and brutally assaulted her. When thevictim’s minor daughter rushed to her mother’s rescue, she too also assaulted and threatened with life. The police registered a case and no arrests could be made till late Fridayevening.
