The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Heera Lal Yadav on Saturday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party government for deploying police at the offices of various political parties in Varanasi in wake of President Ram Nath Kovind's visit to the city on March 15.
He alleged that as police had been deployed inside the party offices, all political activities in the offices of opposition parties had been stopped.
Yadav said it was violation of the fundamental right and police intervention was an illegal act.
He alleged that police had camped inside the office premises of CPIM in the name of monitoring and it was an unconstitutional act of the BJP.
"The police have been deployed outside the houses of several CPIM and Congress leaders. The leaders of different opposition parties are unable to conduct meeting and other work from these offices," he said.
Yadav added that some of the leaders had also received threatening notices from the district administration.
