The state unit of Bharatiya Janata party has alleged that police was persecuting party workers in Mainpuri on the directions of the local ruling party leaders and said that this partisan attitude could force BJP to intensify its agitation.
“The local police knows who are the people behind Mainpuri violence but it has purposely arrested BJP workers to conceal its inefficiency,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in a statement issued here on Monday.
He said that there is an attempt to create a political divide. Directives have been issued to harass BJP workers. “The police know who the people behind Mainpuri violence are. But it is not interested in arresting them,” he said.
On Monday morning Mainpuri police has arrested former BJP MlAs including Ram Naresh Agnohotri, Ashok Chauhan, Narendra Singh rathore, former minister Jaiveer Singh and BJP district president Alok Gupta.
“It has become a fashion with the district administration to arrest BJP leaders. Police should carry out unbiased probe and send the culprits to jail. If the persecution of BJP workers continues the party would be forced to hit the street,” he said.
