Expressing doubts over credibility of coronavirus testing in the state, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said that the government was hiding the number of infected people with the help of police and administration.
In a statement issued in Lucknow on Monday, Lallu said that as compared to other states, the number of infection was increasing at a rapid rate in UP but the government was fudging figures with the help of police and local authorities.
“It was reported in the media that the government is hiding the figures of COVID-19 deaths. Also the figures of testing across the state are very less,” he claimed.
Lallu said that the Yogi Adityanath government’s much-hyped ‘Agra Model’ had proved to be an abject  failure as of the 3,467 COVID-19 patients in the state, Agra alone had 756 cases.
“The UP government and Union Health Ministry presented the ‘Agra Model’ to fight the pandemic across the country and it was widely publicised. In reality, the Taj City has been the worst affected by the coronavirus. The removal of the chief medical officer of Agra is a direct indicator of the government’s failure,” he said.
Lallu said that major cities like Meerut and Kanpur too were badly hit by the pandemic. “The reality of the pandemic is being hidden by exerting pressure on doctors and scientists and the common man will suffer its consequences,” he alleged.
The Congress leader said that the Yogi Adityanath government had not even been able to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to doctors, nurses and other workers. He also said that coronavirus tests of many private labs authorised by the government, were doubtful.
“A health department report said that 10 coronavirus positive reports given by private labs in Bahraich, Sitapur and Noida were found to be negative after being re-tested in government labs. This is very dangerous,” he added.
