Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav issued directives asking officials to complete road projects including that of linking district headquarters with four-lane roads within the deadline failing which action would be taken against erring officials.
The CM’s directives came during a review meeting of PWD officials held in lucknow on Monday. It was the first meeting of PWD that was chaired by the Chief Minister after he divested `chacha’ Shivpal Singh Yadav and took over reins.
“linking district headquarters with four-lane roads is an ambitious project of this government. Budgetary allocation for these projects was made and even a deadline was set. Yet, many projects are lagging behind. The onus is now on the officials to complete these projects within the stipulated time,” Yadav told officials.
The CM set new deadlines according to which Deoria headquarter should be linked by October, Chitrakoot by November and Balrampur by December this year. Similarly, district headquarters of lakhimpur Kheri, Bijnore, Hardoi, Gonda and Maharajganj should be linked with four lane high quality roads by March, 2017.
Officials were also asked to complete construction of Varanasi – Shakti Nagar highway by November 15 this year. “We expect officials to strictly adhere to this guideline. Failing which action would be taken against officials,” Yadav said.
Officials informed the CM that NHAI was supposed to link Banda with a four-lane road by October but now has extended the deadline to January 2017. The CM asked officials to hold talks with NHAI counterparts and expedite the construction of the national highway.
The Chief Minister also reviewed construction of bridges and said that construction of ROB of Agra Inner Ring Road and construction of bridge at Balua ghat in Varanasi should be completed on time. He also set deadline for the construction of bridges in Mirzapur, Ghazipur and Ballia.
