Communist Party of India (Marxist lenninist) accused the central and the state governments of the growing number of suicides by farmers in Uttar Pradesh.
Mentioning the recent suicide by a farmer naming Ram Babu in Jalaun district, CPI(Ml) state unit secretary Sudhakar Yadav said that the farmers were reeling under heavy debt burden and financial constraints. Sometimes they receive notice for property attachments and other loan recovery threats from the banks, which force them to take extreme step, he said.
Both the Centre and the state government have failed to do anything for them, the CPI (Ml) leader maintained. lambasting the Akhilesh Yadav-led UP government for making fake claim of loan waiver for the farmers, CPI (Ml) leader said that instead ofwaiving their loans the government has initiated stringent loan recovery process against them. The CPI (Ml) extended a monetary assistance of Rs 10 lakhs to the bereaved family of Ram Babu and sought an action against the guilty officials.
